Having a fun factor in your life
By Robin Hallett
I am always telling people that they need a fun factor. Simply put, a fun factor is anything that is fun for you to do that uplifts you and shifts your focus away from what is heavy or stressful in your life.
You might wonder, does that really work? Aren’t I just temporarily distracting myself from my problems? And the answer is yes, and no. In doing this exercise at fun, you are learning to shift the focus from what is wrong to what is right or from what is impossible to what is possible. This is a vital tool on the healing journey.
To find out what your fun factor is, try this little meditation: close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Place a hand on your solar plexus and connect to your inner wise self. Ask the question, “what is the fun factor that can best serve me at this time?”. Trust the answer that comes, your higher self doesn’t lie to you! Plan to do this activity as soon as possible.
Some of my own fun factors have been: uplifting movies (In Her Shoes, The Family Stone, Love Actually, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) children’s books (Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia), gardening, ice skating, roller blading, rides at the carnival, having a pajama party, and playing computer games!
What happens in your energy field as you engage in a fun factor and begin to lose yourself in the fun? You begin to raise your vibratory rate and release the heavier energy you’ve carried while turning your attention to the current issue in your life. As you raise your vibration, you begin to attract lighter energies to yourself- positivity can move in. Inspiration can begin. Intuition begins to come from a higher place. And, best of all- you get a new look at the situation in your life that is currently up for you and often find answers that have been eluding you.
So get to it: find your fun factor! This might be the best homework you ever did. And remember, it is supposed to be fun so let yourself laugh out loud.
